When Scottish Water Solutions was formed, the Scottish construction industry had one of the worst health and safety records in the UK.

Working closely with the Health and Safety Executive (Scotland) and using a unique risk reduction profile, Solutions has made significant contribution to improving that record.

Accident rates and service strikes continue to fall during 2006/07 through a rigorous site auditing system  was improved the sharing of best practice among contractors.

Working groups, covering issues ranging from site welfare facilities to hand arm vibration, have led to sharing of latest industry thinking. Initiatives such as a Best Practice group for utility service avoidance, have all contributed to the fall in the number of incidents during the year.

The scale of the work being undertaken by Solutions has enabled it to continue to build a strong relationship with the Health & Safety Executive in Scotland to influence the wider construction industry.

As a supporter of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Scottish High Performers Group, Solutions is committed to advancing health and safety standards internally and also to motivating and assisting other organisations to improve their own performance.
